Biography:
After taking a first degree at Cambridge in Moral Science, as philosophy was then called, and a postgraduate degree at Oxford, I taught for a short time as a Tutorial Fellow at the University of Sussex, before moving to the University of East Anglia. During my years at UEA, I also taught briefly in the United States (at Fairfield University, Connecticut) and in Singapore (at Ngee Ann Polytechnic). Over a number of decades, I also taught extensively for the Open University as an Associate Lecturer, on a wide variety of courses.

I retired from UEA as a Senior Lecturer and moved to the Lakes to pursue my passion for fell-walking. I have not however, severed my connection with philosophy, but have continued to teach for the Open University, currently on the AA308 course, 'Thought and Experience – Themes in the Philosophy of Mind'; I have put on a new course for the Department of Continuing Education at the University of Lancaster, entitled 'The Existence of God', and continue to write articles and reviews of philosophy books. I act as an external examiner for philosophy at the University of Bradford, and also give occasional presentations in philosophy. Most areas of philosophy interest me, in particular epistemology and the philosophy of mind, but most particularly in the philosophy of religion.
